First on the list is ExpressVPN.
ExpressVPN is a British Virgin Island-based VPN service, operating 3000+ live servers in 94 countries worldwide. It is known for delivering fast speed and stable performance. It is perfect for all types of tasks – be it downloading your favorite torrents, bypassing government censorship, or watching YouTube TV from outside the US.
With ExpressVPN, security is never an issue. The company uses the all-powerful OpenVPN tunneling protocol to transmit your data safely over the internet. Other available protocols include IPsec and IKEv2. Traffic encryption is achieved through AES 256-bit ciphers.
ExpressVPN offers complete protection against IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks, ensuring you remain anonymous while you are online. It does not keep any logs of your online activities and supports up to five simultaneous connections on a single account. You can install and use it on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and streaming devices. It also offers clients selected smart TVs, routers, and gaming consoles.
ExpressVPN proved to be the best VPN for YouTube in Australia. You can get ExpressVPN’s 1-year plan for USD 6.67 per month. It comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, allowing you to try out the service for one full month for free.
Streaming YouTube TV on ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN maintains 300+ servers in 24 locations in the US. While you can stream US Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and other popular OTT services on most of these servers, you can watch YouTube TV on only a few of them.
Based on my experience, the following ExpressVPN servers work best with YouTube TV in Australia:
- New York
- New Jersey – 1
- New Jersey – 3
- Dallas – 2
Best ExpressVPN YouTube TV servers
You can connect to servers in any of these four locations, and they will unblock YouTube TV for you. My personal favorite are New York servers.
Pros: Fast servers, excellent security, impressive device support, stable connections, a no-logs policy, IP leak protection Cons: Slightly expensive than the competition Best-performing YouTube TV ExpressVPN servers: New York, New Jersey – 1, New Jersey – 3, Dallas – 2 Verdict: My #1 recommended YouTube VPN for Australia
2) PureVPN
PureVPN is second on the list.
PureVPN is a Hong Kong-based VPN service that operates more than 6500+ servers in 140 countries worldwide. It is known for its excellent customer support and is one of the best VPNs for YouTube TV on the market.
PureVPN offers a rich selection of tunneling protocols to keep your web traffic secure. You can choose from the robust OpenVPN and IKEv2 or go with the less advanced IPsec, SSTP, and PPTP tunneling protocols. For data encryption, the service uses AES 256 cipher keys.
PureVPN provides full-proof DNS and Web RTC leak protection. It has an automatic kill switch that prevents any accidental IP spills, caused by a sudden loss of connectivity. You can connect up to ten devices simultaneously on a single PureVPN account. The company offers apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Kindle, Amazon Fire TV, Kodi, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV Stick. It is a 100% no-logs VPN service.
You can get PureVPN’s two-year plan for USD 3.33 per month. It comes with a 31-day money-back guarantee.
Streaming YouTube TV on PureVPN
PureVPN offers 480+ servers in the US. Not all of these servers unblock YouTube TV, though. In fact, there are only four servers that are configured for accessing YouTube TV in Australia. These include:
- streaming-us-udp2.ptoserver.com
- streaming-us-tcp2.ptoserver.com
- abcgo.pointtoserver.com
- netflix-us.pointtoserver.com (can fail to connect sometimes)
Best PureVPN YouTube TV server
To connect to these servers, switch the PureVPN app to Dedicated IP mode. Next, paste the server address in the address box. Hit “Connect” and enjoy a stutter-free YouTube TV streaming experience from Australia.
Pros: Excellent customer service, compatible with most devices, supports up to ten simultaneous connections, budget-friendly, decent speed, no logs privacy policy, IP leak protection, OpenVPN protocol, AES-256-bit encryption Cons: Servers lack stability Best-performing YouTube TV PureVPN servers: streaming-us-udp2.ptoserver.com, streaming-us-tcp2.ptoserver.com, abcgo.pointtoserver.com Verdict: A solid back-up YouTube TV VPN for Australia
3) Surfshark
Third on the list is Surfshark.
Like ExpressVPN, Surfshark is a British Virgin Island-based VPN service. It is a relatively new entrant in the VPN industry and operates around 3200 servers in 62 countries worldwide. It is known for its well-designed desktop and mobile apps and is one of the few VPNs that work with YouTube TV.
Surfshark uses OpenVPN, IKEv2, IPsec, and Shadowshocks tunneling protocols to secure your online traffic. Data is encrypted with the help of AES-256-GCM keys. An advanced in-built ad blocker keeps you safe from phishing and malware attacks.
The service provides robust protection against IP, DNS, and Web RTC leaks. It maintains a strict no-logs policy and allows unlimited simultaneous connections, which is something truly amazing. You can use and install it on your Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS devices. It also offers support for web browsers, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and routers.
You can get Surfshark’s 2-year plan for USD 2.49 only. It comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Streaming YouTube TV on Surfshark
Surfshark maintains 500+ servers in the US. These servers are spread across 24 cities. Obviously, not all are optimized for YouTube TV.
Based on my experience, Latham and Bend are the most reliable Surfshark US servers for unblocking YouTube TV from Australia. They are consistent, stable, and let you stream the service without any buffering issues.
Pros: Affordable, easy to set up, offers strong device support, one subscription for unlimited connections, no logs, IP leak protection, watertight security Cons: Slower YouTube TV streaming compared to ExpressVPN and PureVPN Best-performing YouTube TV Surfshark servers: Latham and Bend Verdict: The best cheap VPN for watching YouTube TV in Australia

CyberGhost VPN offers a decent pool of tunneling protocols to choose from including OpenVPN, IKEv2, and IPsec. Its encryption is based on the 256-bit cipher system. So rest assured, your data remains absolutely safe online.
With CyberGhost, you get complete protection against IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks. No web activities are logged. You can connect up to 7 devices simultaneously on a single CyberGhost account. Streaming YouTube TV on CyberGhost VPN
CyberGhost has over 1000 servers in the US. These servers are located in 11 cities across the country. They have been fine-tuned to perform various tasks such as downloading torrent files, shopping online, and accessing geo-blocked content.
I prefer using CyberGhost’s streaming section to find servers for YouTube TV. This is a separate section available in all CyberGhost VPN apps. It lists down the servers according to their ability to unblock different streaming sites, making the app extremely easy to use.
Best CyberGhost servers for YouTube TV
There are two servers that always work well whenever I use them to connect to YouTube TV from Australia. They are marked as “Optimized for YouTube TV” and “Optimized for YouTube”. My favorite is the first one as it provides a more stable connection for a longer duration compared to the second one.

YouTube TV overview
YouTube has remained a distinguished content distribution platform ever since it first burst onto the scene. However, it added a whole new identity to its existence when it introduced an OTT internet television service as part of its offerings, more than three years ago.
The service, which we know of as YouTube TV, was initially launched in five cities of the US, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York City, and San Francisco Bay Area. Later, its coverage was expanded countrywide.
YouTube TV was a twist on the existing OTT services. Unlike Netflix and HBO Max, which offered on-demand shows and movies, YouTube TV was designed to replace traditional cable subscription completely. People, who had longed to cut the cord but never found the alternatives worth paying for, finally had something amazing to look towards. The popularity of YouTube TV increased, and today, it has more than 2 million paid subscribers.
There are more than 80 channels you can watch on YouTube TV. From sports to news to entertainment and lifestyle, YouTube TV provides everything you need to wean yourself off the cable. It has also got a built-in DVR functionality that allows you to store unlimited content for later viewing. What’s more, there is an extensive library of on-demand shows and movies that you can enjoy with your friends and family on a binge-watching night. Where else can you get all these offerings under one roof?
This brings us to an important question:
Is YouTube TV available in Australia?
Unfortunately, YouTube TV is inaccessible outside the US. So if you’re a resident of another country, for example, Australia, or a US citizen traveling overseas, you won’t be able to connect to the service because of your location. YouTube TV servers will instantly block you, displaying a message: “It looks like you’re outside of the United States. YouTube TV is only available in the US.”
YouTube TV geo-restriction error
Can you trick YouTube TV location?
Since YouTube TV servers track your sign-in country to allow you access to the service, you can trick them by spoofing your actual location using a VPN for Australia. A virtual private network, or VPN, is a piece of software that lets you connect over the internet anonymously and encrypts your online communications. With a VPN, you can set your online location to a country of your choice (in this case, the US) and bypass YouTube TV geo-restrictions with ease. If you’re interested in learning more about VPN technology, check out this comprehensive guide written by one of my colleagues earlier.
I must mention here that not all VPNs work with YouTube TV. The service can detect most VPNs thanks to an extensive list of blocked IPs it maintains. You must, therefore, use a reliable VPN if you want to watch YouTube TV from Australia.
How do I disable the location tracking services on my device?
If you’re connecting to YouTube TV from your desktop, laptop, or mobile device, you’ll need to disable the location tracking services first. You don’t want to give any possible hints to YouTube TV servers that you’re trying to access the service from Australia.
For Chrome on desktop:
- Go to Chrome settings
- Click on Advanced
- Scroll through “Privacy and security” and select “Site settings”
- Under “Permissions”, set the location to “Ask before accessing”
For Windows 10:
- Go to the Start Menu
- Click on Settings
- Type “location” in the search box
- Select Location Privacy Settings from the drop-down search results list
- Switch the location for the device to off
For Android:
- Go to Settings
- Type “location” in the search box (or tap Connection if you’re using a Samsung mobile)
- Toggle off Location
For iOS:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Privacy
- Turn Location Services off
I try to avoid watching YouTube TV on my smartphone, and unless you have no other option, I’d advise you to do the same. Why is that? That’s because it’s much more difficult to spoof your GPS location on a mobile device. Smartphones often give websites ways to track your location even when you have done all your due diligence.
No YouTube TV account – How do I create one from Australia?
We’ve covered how to set up a VPN to watch YouTube TV from Australia. But what if you don’t have a YouTube TV account, then what? In this section, I’ll discuss three ways to get a YouTube TV subscription from Australia.
i) Create a YouTube TV account in Australia using your US debit/credit card or PayPal
YouTube TV only accepts a US payment method. So if you already have a registered US debit/credit card or PayPal, then setting up an account won’t be a problem for you. Just head over to tv.youtube.com with an active VPN, click “Try It Free” and sign up with all the required information.
After completing the signup process, click “START FREE TRIAL”. You’ll be prompted to provide a US zip code. You can use the same zip code as the one linked to your payment method, or you can search for a new zip code on Google. I use New York zip code 10001 and have never faced any issues. Next, review and confirm your base plan and click “CHECKOUT”. Finally, add your billing details, and—voila—your YouTube TV account is ready.
ii) Create a YouTube TV account in Australia using your friend’s credit/debit card
If you have a friend or a relative who lives in the US, you can request them for their credit card details and use the details to create a YouTube TV account from Australia. The process will be the same as described in method (i); only the billing details will change.
iii) Create a YouTube TV account in Australia using a gift card
You can also create a YouTube TV account from Australia using a digital YouTube TV gift card. These gift vouchers are available on YouTube’s Amazon store and can be purchased with a US credit/debit card. I’d advise you to purchase a $75 gift card at least to avoid any inconvenience with taxes later. Once you’ve purchased a YouTube TV gift card, you can redeem it on youtube.com/redeem and activate your YouTube TV subscription from Australia.
You can request your US friend to get you a YouTube TV gift card or hire someone from Fiverr to buy it for you. I’ve found a few sellers that you can contact and get the job done at reasonable rates.
How much is YouTube TV a month?
YouTube TV’s base plan costs USD 64.99 per month. It comes with a 5-day free trial and gives you access to 85+ channels. You can also include different add-ons with your base plan at the time of subscription.
What channels are on YouTube TV Australia?
YouTube TV lets you stream shows, movies, news, and live & local US sports from 94 channels, including AMC, TNT, The CW, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, National Geographic, BBC America, ABC, Fox News, ESPN, NBC Sports, MLB Network, and more. It also offers local PBS channels, a rarity among major online TV services. The streaming resolution varies with the source.

How long do recordings stay on YouTube TV?
YouTube TV lets you save an unlimited number of recordings for nine months as long as you maintain your membership status. That’s a solid back-up time.
Can you delete recordings on YouTube TV?
You can always delete your old recordings on YouTube TV and prevent your library from cluttering up. Just go to the show you want to remove and tap the minus icon on its side to delete it from the library.
Can you skip commercials on YouTube TV?
Commercials can be a nuisance, and no one likes to watch them. Unfortunately, you can’t skip ads when watching YouTube TV live from Australia. However, you can fast forward them in your recordings.

So what say? YouTube TV in?
I can understand why you may be a little reluctant to cut your cord and get YouTube TV in. After all, the service is pricey. And when you add the VPN fee (and other possible charges) to it, the whole package can get even more expensive. But trust me, it’s worth it, and you won’t regret your decision should your budget allow it.
