Social media negatively impacted Selena Gomez’s mental health

Social Media has unfortunately affected Gomez’s mental peace and health for all the wrong reasons.

She said to Elle Magazine,

For a while, I felt like an object. It felt gross for a long time.

Gomez started feeling the pressure of social media in 2017 and consequently, she handed over her social media accounts to her assistant.

However, she still sends photos and quotes to her assistant as and when needed but she no longer uses Instagram herself. In fact, the assistant does post on Instagram on Gomez’s behalf.

She added,

I don’t have it on my phone, so there’s no temptation. I suddenly had to learn how to be with myself.

That was annoying, because in the past, I could spend hours looking at other people’s lives. I would find myself down nearly two years in someone’s feed, and then I’d realize, I don’t even know this person!

Now I get information the proper way. When my friends have something to talk about, they call me and say, Oh, I did this. They don’t say, Wait, did you see my post?

She revealed during the interview,

“I don’t even know what they really believed I was doing — drugs, alcohol, running around, partying,” she explained of the negative press she endured after checking herself into a mental health facility. “The narrative was so nasty.”

When Selena was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, she felt a huge sigh of relief. She added,

felt like a huge weight lifted off me.

She summed up her situation quite well,

My lupus, my kidney transplant, chemotherapy, having a mental illness, going through very public heartbreaks — these were all things that honestly should have taken me down.

Every time I went through something, I was like, What else? What else am I going to have to deal with?

Gomez has found a purpose of her life

After battling with severe depression, heartbreak, and other mental health issues, Gomez has found a purpose of her life i.e. help other people as much as possible.

She opened up about her purpose of life saying,

That’s really what kept me going. There could have been a time when I wasn’t strong enough, and would have done something to hurt myself.

Selena Gomez is back with a bang

Fans can witness Selena Gomez on their screens portraying the role of a detective in her upcoming Hulu series ‘Only Murders in the Building’ along with Steve Martin and Martin Short.
